Easter and a Birthday

I originally planned for this post to be about how spring had finally come to Scotland. But… the rain and clouds have returned. Of course! But we did have a few glorious weeks of sun and warmth (relatively…) and it was glorious. I seriously turn into a happier and nicer person when the sun is out. I started to feel bad for Jared when the clouds came back… Easter Sunday was one of our last sunny days, and we celebrated with a walk after church, and a delicious meal afterwards!

Our daily lives continue to be much of the same. I am working night shifts at the care home three nights a week, and picking up a few shifts a week at the restaurant. I try to sleep whenever I can, and still never really feel rested! Jared is in the final push for his M.Litt classes, and in two weeks he’ll be free! He’ll spend the summer writing his dissertation, and start the PhD in the fall. We have signed a lease for a new flat starting in August, and it is just around the corner from our current place, so moving should be a breeze. Our new place backs up to a beautiful park which leads right to the beach, it can’t be more than a 5 minute walk.

We celebrated Jared’s 26th birthday a day early with one of his favourite homemade meals, sweet and sour chicken, followed by milkshakes. I really wanted to bake a more complicated dessert, but really, there is nothing Jared would have wanted more than milkshakes. Saturday morning we had pancakes and bacon, before a day of work… boo. Jared tries to keep his birthday a secret, because he’s a weirdo and doesn’t like celebrating birthdays (unlike me, I have a birth-week). So we planned to have a quiet night in, but  some of Jared’s friends from work found out, and so we ended up celebrating with drinks and chinese take out. Can you tell what Jared’s favorite type of food is? I was much happier with a proper celebration, and Jared even enjoyed himself 😉

In a couple of weeks our dear friends Adam and Christa are coming, and we’re going to show them Scotland, and then we’ll all head off to London and Paris together! We’re looking forward to some time with friends and some time off from real life. Our lives are really hard and all… living in Scotland…. not really… but we’ll still enjoy the time off! Just 2 weeks + 2 days; 10,000 words of essays for Jared; 9 night shifts for Becky, and then freedom!!
